Sport at Kent College

Sport plays a large part in life at KC and our teachers are dedicated to nurturing talent, honing skills and developing confidence.

We have had an incredibly successful start to the academic year for our sports teams and individual pupils across the Senior School. It has been a challenging time over the last 18 months with lockdown and Covid restrictions affecting access to training sessions, club sport and gyms but we are very proud of all of our students who have come out the other side with increased motivation and determination.

Netball

We have over 75 pupils in Years 7 to 9 competing for a Kent College netball team this term. We have had fantastic results wining matches against some of our local rivals including Walthamstow Hall, Tonbridge Grammar, Beechwood, Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar and Bromley High school.

Over 40 pupils play club netball and we are incredibly proud that we have pupils from Kent College playing in the majority of the local leagues in the county, with several also selected for squads in London Pulse and Kent County Academy.

Hockey

There are over 40 middle and upper school pupils who have been competing for Kent College in hockey this term and have played in numerous cup matches, county tournaments and local fixtures. They have travelled across the entire region for matches and have won against the likes of Kent College Canterbury, Sutton Valence and Mayfield. Several of our players have also been selected for the Performance Centre Academy and Kent County Academy.

The pupils in all year groups are lucky enough to have early morning skills sessions on the astro before school, with a specific goal keeping session on a Wednesday.

Gymnastics

Our squads took part in the Independent Schools Gymnastics Association competition which was held as a virtual event. The teams competed against other schools throughout the UK and were judged through the Teams App. This was an historic event and all gymnasts received a participation medal to mark the occasion. As well as fantastic successes in the individual events, our Over 13 and U15 teams won gold and our Under 9's won silver.

Athletics/Cross Country

We have several pupils enjoying success in Athletics currently, in particular in the high jump, Kent relays and cross country.

On a Wednesday mornings before school, the PE Department run cross country club through the beautiful woodland surroundings. We also took our teams to Dunorlan Park to join in the 5k Park Run in October to put their endurance to the test.

Equestrian

One of our Year 11 pupils and her horse have been selected to become part of the GB Foundation Training Squad for Dressage and four of our students competed at Keysoe International in half term where the team finished 6 out of 23 schools as well as placing highly in the Individual Elementary Dressage.

Football

We have now introduced football onto the curriculum for the lower school and hope to get our very own KC team going in the near future. Two of our pupils already play at a high level, with one of our Year 7 pupils playing for Chelsea Football Club and one of our Year 9's, who last term set up her own football club at Kent College, playing for West Kent football squad.

Many of our other sports are also represented at a high level. We have two players who have been selected for the Kent County Cricket Academy, our Year 9 climber finished 2nd out of 26 in the Bouldering category at the Southampton BMC Youth Climbing series competition, our tennis player in Year 8 came second in the U14 Tunbridge Wells Lawn Tennis Club Championships and we have two amazing swimmers; one in Year 9 who has been invited to become part of the 2021/22 National Development Talent Programme and one of our Year 11 pupils, who has qualified for the South East short course Winter Regionals.
