Forest Fun Open Day: Sharing the Magic of Outdoor Learning

Forest Fun Open Day: Sharing the Magic of Outdoor Learning

This September, we are delighted to welcome families to Forest Fun Open Day, a celebration of the outdoor learning that has become such an important part of life at Kent College Prep. The morning offers current and prospective families the opportunity to discover how our woodland and green spaces become living classrooms where curiosity, creativity and confidence flourish.

At Kent College Prep, outdoor learning is woven into the fabric of everyday school life. Our outdoor learning programme is an integral part of the curriculum, giving children regular opportunities to explore, discover and learn in the natural environment throughout the year. Whether investigating woodland habitats, building dens, developing practical skills or observing the changing seasons, every experience nurtures curiosity, resilience and a genuine love of learning.

A Morning of Adventure, Creativity and Discovery

Forest Fun Open Day offers a wonderful opportunity to experience this distinctive approach to education first-hand. Throughout the morning, families will work together to solve challenges, investigate the woodland environment and immerse themselves in engaging activities that encourage observation, creativity and teamwork. Children can create beautiful leaf prints inspired by the woodland around them, craft nature pendants from found treasures, enjoy imaginative play in the mud kitchen and develop practical skills through woodland challenges. Families will also gather around the campfire to toast marshmallows, sharing stories and enjoying one of the simple pleasures that makes time spent outdoors so memorable.

Alongside opportunities to build with natural materials, explore habitats and discover the science of the natural world, every activity demonstrates how learning beyond the classroom deepens understanding while making education meaningful, memorable and fun.

Building Confidence Through Exploration

At the heart of outdoor learning is something wonderfully simple: the confidence to ask questions. Children are encouraged to think independently, test ideas, persevere when something doesn't go to plan and celebrate the discoveries that come from exploration. These experiences develop resilience, creativity and problem-solving skills while laying strong foundations for success across the curriculum, particularly in STEM subjects, and fostering a lifelong love of learning.

One of the most rewarding aspects of Forest Fun Open Day is the opportunity for parents to experience this style of learning alongside their children. Watching families collaborate, create, solve problems and celebrate achievements together reflects the strong sense of community that defines Kent College Prep. For prospective families, it is also a chance to see our educational philosophy in action and experience the warm, welcoming environment that makes our school so special.

Learning That Inspires and Connects

We believe education should inspire children to be curious, courageous and connected to the world around them. Our outdoor learning programme plays a vital role in achieving this, helping pupils develop resilience, creativity and respect for nature while enriching the learning that takes place in the classroom.

For those visiting us for the first time, we hope Forest Fun Open Day offers a genuine insight into life at Kent College Prep. More than simply a showcase, it reflects who we are as a school and our belief that children learn best when they are actively engaged, encouraged to explore and given the confidence to think for themselves.

Celebrating 140 Years of Learning

As Kent College marks 140 years of inspiring young people, Forest Fun Open Day celebrates the values that have remained at the heart of our school for generations: curiosity, community and a love of learning. We look forward to welcoming families for a memorable morning of adventure, creativity and discovery, and to sharing the unique experience of learning in the outstanding natural surroundings of our 75-acre campus.
