Head of Prep School

Full Time

April or September 2021

Kent College Pembury is seeking to appoint an empathetic and highly effective leader as Head of the Prep School from April or September 2021. The Prep School forms part of the whole school and the Headmistress delegates the responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Prep School to the Head of Prep. The Head of Prep is also responsible for the strategic direction of the Prep School and as member of the Executive Team, to develop the strategy and direction for the whole school.    

Structurally, the role sits equally with the two Deputy Heads, Deputy Head Academic and Deputy Head Pastoral. Both Deputies have whole school responsibilities and the Head of Prep will also take on a specific area to suit the skill set of the successful candidate. The Deputy Head Academic has responsibility for the staff who teach in both the Prep and Senior School and the Deputy Head Pastoral is the School’s DSL and has responsibility for safeguarding across the whole school. The current Head of Prep is one of three Deputy DSLs.

The Head of Prep is part of the Executive Team comprising the Headmistress, Bursar, Deputy Head Academic and the Deputy Head Pastoral. The Head of Prep and two Deputies operate very much as equals, sharing ideas and concerns and working together to achieve the best outcomes for every pupil and colleague in the school. The Head of Prep and the Deputies are expected to be able to deputise for the Headmistress as necessary.

The Head of Prep and the Deputies are expected to be a presence in and around school, attending matches, drama productions, concerts and other evening and weekend events. As members of the Executive Team they will also share cover for the school during holiday periods.

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a proven track-record of leadership in a prep environment, and experience of managing a pastoral and/or academic team. The Head of Prep will teach a significantly reduced timetable which will be agreed with the Headmistress.
