GCSE Results 2018

Following the A-Levels last week, Kent College is celebrating a particularly successful set of GCSE results with nearly 50% of girls achieving an average grade of A*, A, or equivalent in all of their subjects.  Exceptionally, 27% of the grades under the new system were awarded the coveted Level 9, which is reported to be harder to achieve than the traditional A*. The school in Pembury is also proud to announce that a remarkable 10% of the year group achieved a clean sweep of A* grades and Level 8/9 grades.

A stunning 53% of Kent College English Literature students were awarded a Level 9, and overall 93% of girls achieved the equivalent of an A or above, a testament to their hard work and to the support of their inspiring teachers. The Science Department saw 50% of Biology students achieve a Level 9, and the Geography and German departments saw three-quarters of their students achieve the equivalent of an A or above. Particular congratulations go to the Latin department who saw 67% of girls achieve a Level 9, and the rest of the class achieve the equivalent of an A grade.

The school is extremely proud of the consistent annual increase in value-added scores achieved across the curriculum. This is evidence of the school’s exceptional academic provision, as well as the outstanding quality of its pastoral care.

As this strong cohort of GCSE students commence their A-Level studies, the future looks bright for Kent College’s popular Sixth Form. Parents and girls have praised the school for the wide variety of subjects it offers for A-Level learning, as well as its commitment to tailoring each programme of study to suit girls’ individual needs.

Julie Lodrick, Headmistress, commented, “I am delighted with the results, especially in light of the new reformed exams. The girls should be very proud of their individual achievements which are testament to their hard work and dedication. The girls will enter Kent College’s Sixth Form with the self-belief and confidence that they can achieve their ambitions, and we look forward to their continued success over the next two years.”

Particular congratulations to Jasmine who will be studying Maths, Biology, English and Psychology at A-Level after achieving the equivalent of 9A* and 1As commented: “I am overjoyed with my results. The encouragement and care from everyone at Kent College has been second to none. They really are the nicest people around to nurture you through your exam years.”

Jemima also aced this summer’s examinations with the equivalent of 7A* and 4As commented: “I am ecstatic! Wow, I didn’t think I would achieve so many Level 9s. The support from the teachers has made me achieve higher grades than I was expecting, especially in Latin, thank you. I am looking forward to continuing my journey at this school and studying English, Politics, Economics and Latin next year.”

Isabelle will be studying Biology, Business Studies and Psychology at A-Level having gained the equivalent of straight As and A* this year commented: “I am really happy and very proud of myself after seeing my results this morning. Girls I know in the Upper Sixth have told me all about KC Sixth Form and I can’t wait, they love it! I am also really excited about doing the Leith’s Certificate in Food and Wine, especially as I know we have a new Food Technology room.”

Lana, who has accepted a place at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music, and will continue on at Kent College as a Sixth Form student, today learnt that she had achieved the equivalent of straight As and A* in her results commented: This morning I felt ecstatic when I saw my results. I have been working so hard for so long, it was just the best feeling in the world to see I had passed everything, and to see that I had passed everything so well was an added bonus. I also felt so grateful towards all of the teachers, and to my friends, who have been by my side for the past two years. I now am really excited to learn about specific subjects I love: Classics, English Literature, Drama, and Psychology. I would like to thank Mr Ashton and Miss Bruce for giving me great advice. Thanks to them I applied to RCM and will be studying a very busy programme there every Saturday. I really can’t wait.”
