Introduction
There is much more than the statutory academic curriculum on offer for KC girls and the school is a hub of activity after lessons end. Kent College defines education in its broadest sense, playing a role in the development of the whole individual - their social interests, moral values and life skills. Once a year the whole Senior School enjoys an evening out at a West-end theatre; just one example of the sense of fun and community spirit.
Clubs and Societies
An impressive and diverse range of lunchtime and after school activities - life saving, street dance, art club, martial arts, horse riding, choir and pet club , to name a few - offers additional scope for students to discover their individual strengths and abilities. There are curriculum related groups like the Chemistry and Computing clubs and Sixth Form students can extend their practical skills by running businesses as part of the Young Enterprise Scheme. Further challenges are taken up by those joining the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Service to the Community
Among the most rewarding and enjoyable activities which unite and inspire students are those involving community service. Thousands of pounds are raised every year for charities chosen by the girls. The biggest event in the school calendar is a sponsored walk involving the whole school from 3 year olds to senior students and staff, and in 2003 the school raised over £12,000 for charity. At Christmas, elderly folk from local Pembury village are treated to a festive tea and carols. Through these, and many other initiatives, students learn the value of giving.

Busy Weekends
A busy schedule of weekend activities is open to both boarders and day girls including sporting fixtures, bowling, parties and social events with other boys' and girls' schools. Regular day trips include visits to Buckingham Palace, Bath, Oxford, Cambridge and London museums, art galleries and theatres. Workshops are often staged by teachers and visiting experts on subjects ranging from drama and dance to cookery and craftwork.
Residential and Overseas Trips
Residential trips, both at home and abroad, are arranged for sporting and cultural activities during half terms and holidays. Examples include:
- Skiing trip to Italy
- Day trips to Boulogne and Calais
- Classics Trip to Italy
- Year 7 residential activity weekend in Osmington Bay, Dorset
- Year 8 overnight camping trip to Bewl Water, East Sussex
- Year 9 initiative training and sleepover
- Year 10 residential weekend at the UK Sailing Academy in Cowes, Isle of Wight
- Drama tour to America
- A-level geography trip to Morocco
From Year 9, students can spend two or three weeks living with French and German families and attending their hosts' schools, and partners from exchange schools come to Kent College as boarders or day girls. The school has an exchange programme with Fairholme College, Toowoomba in Australia and each year two students from Year 9 spend the autumn term there in exchange for two Australian students. A successful A-level drama exchange has been established with schools in America. |
